One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is to go for a walk and photograph birds. Along the Point Reyes National Seashore, where I am fortunate enough to be able to spend a lot of time studying the plants and wildlife, Savannah sparrows are one of the most common birds I see in the grassy, scrubby habitats. Their buzzy, insect-like song is often heard before the bird is seen, and a quick scan of the taller weeds and fence posts usually yields a great look at this heavily-streaked brown bird. This pastel drawing was based off a photo that I took while birding at Chimney Rock.
